Matching Patterns to Bugs

Why These Choices?

Versatility: With these flies, one is covered for almost every trout opportunity in Colorado. Some patterns are exact imitations. Others, called searching patterns, suggest a number of food items rather than one. These patterns are good choices when it's a mystery what fish are eating.

There are choices for midges, mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, terrestrials and baitfish. The life stages of nymphs, pupa, emergers and adults are included. You can fish lakes, riffles, tailwaters and run-off with one or more selections year-round. Consult the table below to match flies to bugs and baitfish.
